Joeys Alumni - St. Joseph’s CBS Past Pupils’ Union
Members - All past pupils of St. Joseph’s CBS are members.
Associate members - Non past pupils who are closely associated with the school, for example some staff, parents, present or past Board of Management members, etc.
Members and Associated members are herein after called Members
Controller - means the natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body which, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data; where the purposes and means of such processing are determined by Union or Member State law, the controller or the specific criteria for its nomination may be provided for by Union or Member State law.
Processor - means a natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body which processes personal data on behalf of the controller;

Below the Joeys Alumni will explain in plain language;
Firstly we would like to guarantee you that, irrespective of GDPR, we have always valued and respected your association, involvement and interaction with the Joeys Alumni and, therefore, we have proactively protected the information we have about all our members.
How are you a member of the Joeys Alumni?
The Joeys Alumni is the past pupils’ union of St. Joseph’s CBS. Members choose to opt in and volunteer their contact details at the time of leaving school or subsequently.
Please note: As a St. Joseph’s CBS leaver who opts not to submit contact data to the Joeys Alumni this does not exclude you from the services and support of the Joeys Alumni. By not submitting your contact details you are just opting to be an anonymous member. You will just not receive updates, news and event information. You are always welcome to contact us for support, networking or just reconnection with other past pupils. If you wish to engage in this way please state so in all correspondence. Your choice to do so is confidential and will only be known to the relevant Joeys Alumni committee members.
Associate members of the Joeys Alumni may be some teachers, parents and present or past Board of Management members, who choose to join the network.
The Joeys Alumni is, however, a fully independent body and as such any data, personal or otherwise, is strictly used for Joeys Alumni purposes. No data is ever shared with any other body. Within the Joeys Alumni, currently, only two people have full access to the Joeys Alumni database. Under the terms of the legislation they are the Controller and Processor of the information.
What information do we desire?
The personal information desired by the Joeys Alumni is;

Why do we want this specific information?
This information is used to enrich the networking, mentoring and support of the Joeys Alumni network. For example; a student (or the school on behalf of students) may request support in choosing a career. We then search our network and if a suitable match(s) is/are found, we, the Joeys Alumni, will contact the parties and requisition their permission to open up channels of communication.
The primary use of the information is simply to update you about activities, news and encourage networking.
How and under what permissions do we collect data?
Data is collected both offline and online.
Offline
Personal information is volunteered by members at face to face events such as Joeys Alumni Business Network Events, Annual Dinner, Golf events and at the meet the Joeys Alumni event with current 6th formers in the school.
Online
We collect data with your permission through voluntary submission on
We also use your connection to the Joeys Alumni LinkedIn profile to fill in some of the data desired above. The LinkedIn data is publicly available data on your profile. We only collect the publicly available data of those who chose to connect with the Joeys Alumni via LinkedIn.
Cookies
In order for any dynamic website to work properly the code gathers information about the user in order to help them navigate the website. This information is held in a file called a cookie.
If you just browse the website without logging in our cookies only store basic information such as a session id. Under that session id your navigation is tracked around the site (so that if you press the back button for instance it knows what page you were on last). The cookie also stores any information you may submit to the site on a form or as a post.
If you log into the site the cookie recognises that the session id is associated with a particular profile and records the above under that profile.
The cookies contain time stamps for each action.
Google Analytics
The Joeys Alumni website uses Google analytics to record how many visitors travel to the site, from where, at what time and to what pages for how long.
How long is the data used for?
Your membership of the Joeys Alumni is lifelong unless you request to terminate your association with you union.
What rights do you have over the data?
The Joeys Alumni recognises that this information is wholly yours. You have full control over what we store and how we use it. If you wish to alter the uses we describe above please just click the link below and email us your instruction. The Joeys Alumni Controller and Processor will make those changes within 24 hours.
The Joeys Alumni is your organisation. If you have any concerns with any of the above please contact us to express them. In accordance with the rules of the union and in compliance with GDPR regulations those concerns / complaints will be addressed.
How is your data protected?
Your data is stored in encrypted format both locally and online on the Joeys Alumni server.

Social Media Policy (e.g. posts on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp Groups, Twitter, etc.):
The mission of Joeys Alumni is to support pupils past and present be the best they can be. Our motto is “Neart le Chéile” (Strength Together). Please bear in mind that our Facebook / LinkedIn Pages, WhatsApp Groups and Twitter Account are intended as an aid to networking between all Joeys stakeholders (including past pupils, friends, supporters, parents and staff). Members are encouraged to post photos, links to articles, stories, etc. in ways that are positively engaging to our stakeholder community.
We would ask members to help make and keep our Facebook / LinkedIn Pages, WhatsApp Groups and Twitter Account as mutually supportive as possible by observing the following rules:
1. Be Kind and Courteous
We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
2. No Hate Speech or Bullying
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated. Verbal or pictorial personal attacks on individuals, alive or dead, must be avoided.
3. Respect Everyone's Privacy
Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.
