As announced at our Annual Reunion Dinner on 10th June, three Alumni scholarships were presented to students in Irish universities.
Additionally, Joeys Alumni in US and at home combined to award a sports scholarship to 2022 Leaving Cert graduate, Tadhg Walsh, to enable him take up a partial US College scholarship to study PE and play soccer at Fort Hays, Kansas.
Tadhg is the first Joeys pupil to be offered a sports scholarship. His aim is to qualify in PE, play football at the highest level, and have a career afterwards as a PE teacher.
The University course lasts 4 years and he hopes to qualify for a full scholarship from year 2 onwards.
Tadhg who was a school prefect, captained the Joey’s senior and the Irish under 19 schools soccer teams, and played for Dundalk FC, St. Kevin’s and Malahide United.
The Alumni scholarship scheme is greatly appreciated by the students and their parents. Funds are required annually to keep it going. Please contact Paddy Walsh (who chairs the PPU scholarship committee) or let any Alumni committee member know if you can help (info@joeysalumni.com).
The photo was taken when Mickey Whelan (of Dublin GAA fame) visited the school to meet Tadhg and his mother Sinead. Mickey was the beneficiary of a similar US scholarship to study PE.
