Joeys Alumni and the Benefits of Networking:

Joeys Alumni provides a networking platform through which people with shared school, but different life experiences can come together and provide avenues to be mutually helpful to one another (even through just listening). Networking is a good way of talking to people and finding ways to make our lives better for ourselves and our families.

Networking – what in it for you as a Joey’s past pupil:

·         It provides a way to keep in touch with former classmates.

·         It opens opportunities to be part of the broader network of people who went to the same school – be it for social, career, business, or other reasons.

A network is a group of people working together to share knowledge, expertise and inspiration. It helps:

·         improve your skills and knowledge.

·         work on generating solutions with like-minded peers.

·         find future work opportunities.

·         re-ignite your motivation and purpose. 

What is networking?

Networking is about building long-term business, career and personal relationships. When networking, you meet and get to know people who not only offer advice or guidance but can help expand your effectiveness. It creates the right connections with the right people and fosters those relationships regularly.

In business, networking is important because it, helps you to build your reputation, trust, and support. It also invites opportunity and inspires creative thinking.

Networking won’t guarantee getting a business or career opportunity (you need the relevant skills, experience, personal attributes, qualifications, etc. for that) but it makes you visible and brings you into the choice set of those who can help you in the game of life.

Where we are now:

The enabling networking framework is largely in place. This includes our Annual Reunion Dinner, Golf Events, our database and emailing system (CRM), a growing number of WhatsApp Groups, identified Year Contacts for most LC Years, Facebook and LinkedIn Pages and our Joeys Alumni website.

You can sign-up on our website www.joeysalumni.com, providing your contact details and opting to share or not share with past LC Year classmates. Signing up on our website also provides access to our Gallery of photos filed by LC Year/s or events. It also includes you in circulation of our periodic newsletters.

Our Annual Reunion Dinners present great opportunities to renew acquaintances with former school mates and have proved very enjoyable and a basis for keeping in touch. Concentration is on anniversary years (on a 5-year cycle) – times when people reflect on the relationships built and social skills learnt at school, which are just as important as the education received as a career foundation.

Ideally, we would like to run more events, but this requires involvement of a one or two past pupils to organise and run them.
