Don McCann is one of three McCann brothers, who attended Joey’s during the 60’s and early 70’s. They were: Oliver (class 63), Don (class 68) and Mick (class 71), who passed away 3 years ago.
All Don’s friends agree that he epitomises loyalty, friendship and a great sense of humour.
Nothing was too much for Don and his wife, Aideen, when it came to great get-togethers especially New Year’s Eve.
Don loves music, photography, video, travel are evident from the video he made for their year’s 50th anniversary (shown at Joeys Annual Dinner in February 2018) link here.
Don, was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year and has recently been discharged from hospital having stopped his treatment. The family decided that he would much rather spend his time at home in Artane instead of in a nursing home. Don will need significant carer support every day in order to stay at home. Unfortunately, home nursing care in Dublin is both scarce and expensive. To help meet these extra costs the family are holding a fundraising party on July 28th in Parnell’s GAA Club, Coolock, Dublin 5, where there will be entertainment for the children during the day followed by live music and an auction. All funds raised on the day will be used exclusively towards the cost of home care for Don. A lot of you have kindly asked how you can help and we have set up this page in order for people who can’t come on the day but who wish to donate.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
