The Epic Origins of Hurling - Presentation by Joeys Alumni
Today's presentation by Joeys Alumni, Brendan, Michael and Stephen McGrath, in Croke Park on "The Epic Origins of Hurling" was most informative and enjoyable. The event was hosted by the GAA Book Club at the GAA Museum in the Cusack Stand. After the presentation we were taken on a tour of the GAA Museum.
Photos from the event may be viewed here Originally penned in Irish by Brother Liam Ó Caithnia (Canny) of St Joseph’s Fairview (Joeys), this book offers a deep dive into the origins of hurling, concentrating on researched accounts about the game in the 16th and 17th centuries. During those times, hurling received widespread community support throughout the country. It was also financially backed by landlords, including a level of player professionalism, which would come as a surprise to people today.
The book serves as a valuable vehicle for making Bro. Canny's work more widely available, for its preservation and as a fundraiser for school projects. It is available for purchase through our dedicated website here
