The 1st outing of the rejuvenated Joey’s Golf Society took place in Clontarf Golf Club on Friday, 23rd September 2022 and was a most enjoyable day for all who played and supported the event. People will have noticed our re-focus on holding a socially engaging, enjoyable networking event as a change from our emphasis on fundraising over the last few years.
51 players participated in 3-ball and 4-ball team competitions on a day perfectly suited to golf. The course is well laid out, maintained and challenging and the clubhouse provided an ideal venue for refreshment and socialising on completion of our golf rounds.
Many thanks to all who played and also to those who provided and sponsored prizes, which enabled us to present prizes to 3 teams with the best scores in each competition as well as for “Nearest the Pin” on the par 3 6th and “Longest Drive” on the par 5 18th - scroll down for results..
Our thanks also go to John Daly & Martin Corcoran for doing check-in, to Des Kelly for marking the score cards and to our golf society committee for making the event happen. A special thank you is reserved for Principal, Sean Stack, for driving the 3 TY students to the event for photography duties and for helping with directions for past pupil golfers. They did a great job - taking photos (click link to view).
As well as golfers, we were most pleased to have the company of past pupils, Leslie Deegan (LC Class of 1963 and Dublin footballer) and Dessie Johnson (LC Class of 1968 currently visiting Dublin from the USA).
At the presentation of prizes, President, Dave Rafferty explained that Joeys Alumni is reprioritising the social and networking side of our activities. The objective of this change is to encourage more involvement and engagement in our activities by past pupils in ways that best suit their own interests and personal situations. Watch out for developments and do please let us know if you would like to get involved in some small way (incl. golf or other social events), email: info@joeysalumni.com or message us on Facebook or LinkedIn.
He also referred to the great progress the school has made and continues to make with our assistance in many areas. These include our Industry-sponsored P-Tech programme, building renovations, re-introduction of hurling & football (post Covid restrictions), campaigning for funding equality of voluntary DEIS secondary schools (like Joeys) and other areas.
Note that if you are a past pupil of Joeys, either Primary or Secondary, you are eligible to join Joeys Alumni - sign-up here to join, access photos, participate in events, etc.
