Primary – Principal’s Report on first term Nov 2023

Firstly I’d like to say how immensely honoured I am to have taken over as Principal of St Joseph’s Primary School. The first 8 weeks have been incredibly busy. We have recently had our website redone and it now has regular updates about all that is happening in the school. Be sure to check it out: here

Our famous afterschool clubs have got up and running in the first term. Our homework club, art club and of course of Gaelic Football team have been hard at work over the first 8 weeks. We were fortunate that one of our new teachers Mr. O Connor took our Gaelic team and managed to win 1 out of our three games and narrowly avoid going to the quarter finals. For such a small school, we put in a fantastic effort in the three games against all big schools from Dublin west. We also played a challenge game against O’Connell’s and managed to win well. A big well done to all the boys and a big thank you to the staff that gave up their time for after school for the clubs. The GPO from Vincent’s has also started working with our second classes.

We acquired a grant during the summer for new furniture in the school. The majority of it has arrived. We are very thankful to Pete’s antiques for taking away all our old furniture at no cost as his father was a past pupil. This saved the school a small fortune for which we are very grateful. We also have started the process of painting the school over the last few weeks.

We held a coffee morning in September for St Francis Hospice and managed to raise over €1000 euro to an excellent cause.

We held a fundraiser for the school last week in the 1884 pub. It was a musical Bingo and the school gave away over €500 in prizes on the night.

We have big plans for the school over the coming year. Be sure to keep an eye on the school website to keep up with all that is happening.
